Clunking while steering right at low speed

Hi all, I am wondering what is going on and how to deal with it. I am getting a clunking sound when turning to the right at low to moderate speeds. I looked at the steering shift and it seems to be in good shape. I can't feel the clunking in the wheel, but I can feel the clicking/clunking in the floor, or somewhere, not completely determinable where the clicking is coming from, but it's not in the wheel. Where should I start looking and how do I determine where the noise is coming from without going to an outrageously priced dealer!

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: Clunking while steering right at low speed

When this happened to me, it was the intermediate steering shaft. I bought the lube kit from a dealer, performed the install, and the noise went away. Others have replaced the shaft.

Re: Clunking while steering right at low speed

Would I be able to look at the steering shaft and determine if it is the problem? was your issue uni directional as well? It is a 2001 Silverado 4WD, forgot to mention that.

Thanks!

Re: Clunking while steering right at low speed

In my case, I noticed the clunk when turning into my driveway. I only noticed the clunk when there was a bump (like turning into my driveway). So turning right at a stop sign I did not notice it.

I also did not feel it in the steering wheel and as an ex-alignment guy, I though it had to be something in the front end. I could not find anything wrong with the front end/suspension and found this website. I decided to try the lube kit (I think it was $15) and it fixed my issue.
