Perplexing problem

Here's one that should give you all as much fun and joy as it has given me....not. Ok here's the car, '99 Lumina police pak (3.8, HD goodies, you know the drill). Now from my rear drivers side wheel, I've been hearing a clicking/popping, coinciding with the speed of the wheel, noise. So today I take the wheel off and play detective. Bearings? check, rotated the hub with a drill, not a peep. Next, check the rotor. Ok a 'lil tired, but was cut last time I did my brakes and is way over minimum thickess. Caliper check next. Nothing ripped, torn, broken or loose. Rotated the piston back in all the way, no noises or such. Pads? Raybestos Ceramic premium, minimum wear as I did the brakes like 4 months ago, no chips, gouges, etc. Nothing rubbing anywhere either. Ok, so the rotor looks a 'lil tired so maybe that's the culprit. Even though I had them machined, maybe it got a hot spot,and BTW, no vibrating @ the pedal either. Ok lets change the rotor. Put a new one on and was fine for like 5 minutes. There it is again!!!!!! lower this time, but still there. Are you serious???? I think I'll change the other rear rotor next week, but 'till then, any similar issues for anyone and what was your cure, if any? Thanks!

No weight on the wheel hub when you checked, so no noise, based on your info I might say the bearing was bad.

I'm not sure it is the bearing. I spun it with the wheel on and off and no noise. Sorry, should have stated that in my original post. Only makes the noise while brakes are being apllied. But thanks for the reply, might just change the bearing anyway.

You put a non-directional swirl on the rotors?

Otherwise they'll click the pads like a phonograph needle hitting the end of the record...

sounds like you probably already know this, but when it was gone until the pads seated, then returned but with different sound after machining, made me wonder...

Also check the runout real close...make sure there's no bent stub axle or something....

Well, the sound wasn't different, same sound, just lower in volume. Non- directional cut put on the old rotor. Replaced rotor Saturday. As of tonight, drove the Lumina and so far, the noise has stopped. But I only did like 10 miles around my area and parked it. So I guess this weekend will tell.
