Drive belt main component? locking mechanism?

Well, today when headed out to town, my drive belts failed me. one snapped and the other slipped off. i keep trying to look up info on the main component for the belt that has the locking mechanism so i can adjust the tension to it. but i cant come across an image/video of what the part/section looks like. im about to head back all the way out there in 2 hours so if i could just get pointed in the right direction it would really help me out big time. just so i can look at it for reference weather i can or cant fix it before the sun goes or not. i keep coming across the info that doesnt really give much to go on. so i beg you, if you can, pls give me a little info. i would really apretiate it. AAA only tows 7 miles and i cant afford or do a tow. so if i can get a good look at it an start today (maybe do it right tomorrow bright an early) for specs, its just a stock 1999 gs. thanks

Re: Drive belt main component? locking mechanism?

There is a mechanical tensioner right above the AC compressor. You will see it when you looks down. Loosen the nut on the pulley that loose the screw that moves the pulley so you can slip the belt on. Not the alternator belt is a pain, have you to go under the car and loosen all the red nuts, you should be able to get to one from the top. And there is also a tensioner there. You will have to loosen that and slip the belt back on. It will suck doing it on the side of the road. Good luck though

Hope I got to you in time

Re: Drive belt main component? locking mechanism?

Glad you got it fixed. It sucks when the car breaks down and you have to fix it on the spot.
