Unhappy 97 familia /323 auto transmissions issue

i have a 97 familia automatic , when i put it into D , it starts off real slow , seems to be stuck in 3rd gear ,

when i put leaver into 1 , it starts off in first gear no problem ,
ive taken it to a gearbox guy , who said it seems to be electrical , maybe computer ,

anyone any ideas of what it could be , or what i can check ,

ive checked all the fuses, and trans oil seems a bit brown ,

if anyone needs more info just ask and il do my best to answer

Re: 97 familia /323 auto transmissions issue

Your transmission is in "Limp" mode. It is a default condition that it goes into when the transmission is having problems in order to prevent further damage. OD turns off and transmission stays in 3rd gear by default. Shifting must be done manually. Check for MIL codes. Check your trans fluid levels. Check the fluid quality. Ensure fluid is correct type. Change your fluid and filter. If all the above fail take it to a transmission shop.
