Need rear brake help!

I need help/ideas with my rear brakes. I noticed that the braking surface was starting to heavily rust, not just the surrounding areas of the rotor which i know is natural but there should be at least an inch or two of breaking surface which is constantly being cleared by regular braking but not on my car. there is just a tiny tiny strip of maybe a centimenter that is still clean on one side and none on the other and I had the rotors resurfaced days ago. The dealership said that they were contacting just fine and all I needed was to resurface the rotors but if they are already rusting something doesnt seem right. I called the dealership and they said it was fine and that is just how it goes? is that right? Shouldn't the rotors be cleared of the new rust by regular braking if they were contacting properly? am I just crazy since they don't seem to care at the dealership and don't think i have a problem

What year Grand Am ?

It should clear the rust off the rotors with normal driving.

If it's high humidity where you live, they could rust rather quickly, or overnight is normal when it's been raining.

Thanks, 2003 is the year. As for humidity I wish, it is like between 40 and 55 degrees lately, slightly colder at night but it is a garage where it doesnt get that much colder. It did rain right after I got them resurfaced which is when the rust re-appeared but i've been driving it a couple days since then and the rust is still on the braking surface and in the center too not just the outer edges.

Check your calipers and slides for free movement. It is not uncommon for them to have issues with the slides and it is also not uncommon for the rear rotors to be rusted up pretty bad with no noticeable problems.

This must be a GT model since it has discs on the rear. Rears dont work as hard as the front calipers.
And as Airjer mentioned if the slide pins arent greased they wont slide and grab the rotor evenly on both sides.

Also if you have non-metalic pads, they wont clean the rotors off as good as metalic pads.

Both my GAs rears do this occationaly if not driven enough to knock the rust off the surface.

Another thing I thought of is make sure the pads aren't binding in the brackets. If there frozen in there you'll need to remove the metal shims and clean the rust that has built up under them. I have a bench top sand blaster just for this task. Makes them look like brand new.
