d16a6/d16z6 minime trouble

i have 89 d16a6 block and d16z6 head. the car runs with a6 dis. but will not with z6 dis. i have spark. do i need to swap the ecu to obd1

so this is all in an OBD1 car? it doesnt make sense that it would run with an OBD0 disty seeing how it cant even plug into the OBD1 harness. Be a little more specific and maybe we can help
