93 cherokee possible fuel injector issue

I have gas odor in the engine compartment. No fluid on the spark plugs when pulled and none observed superficially in the compartment. I have smoke that comes out of the 1st cylinder / spark plug only when pulled after engine has been running.
Any ideas? I thought maybe the fuel injector is bad, but would like some more input.

Check to see if the fuel pressure regulator is leaking
