Re: 2002 grand prix gtp brake control module?

What brand ABS scan tool was used? Those DTCs are just generic garbage and you cannot rely on them. Plus they do not match any listed for GM ABS Mark VI or GM/Bosch 5.3 ABS systems. GM ABS DTCs start with C1XXX.

Could be the electronic brake and traction control module (EBTCM), ABS modulator/motor pack, solenoids or wiring.

Thats not good enough or dependable on retrieving ABS DTCs and properly translating to determine what component is causing your issue. You need a GM Tech 2 scan tool.

Re: 2002 grand prix gtp brake control module?

what do you think it could be? wires look good and all 4 bearing are good front are brand new. when i bought the car the light was on and the front bearings were bad( 40mph hum) so changed them and light didnt go off. but sounds a lot better anyway. my rack is leaking and i have a new one just didnt get a chance to change yet. could the rack set a code?

Re: 2002 grand prix gtp brake control module?

For 1999 and up GPs a common failure item is the EBTCM module which is located at the front of the ABS motor pack/modulator assembly below the master cylinder where you see that big electrical connector going to it. Expensive part but there are companies on the NET that repair them at a much lower cost.

No problems as long as it is good. Be sure to get one specifically for your year GP or double check the GM/Delco part numbers. There are variances through the years, I think Ed Morad sells them used separately but double check. Many salvage yards prefer you pull the whole ABS/EBTCM/Motorpack assembly.

Re: 2002 grand prix gtp brake control module?

Hard to beat that price for the whole assembly. GM list is way above $800 or more. I'll have Rich - Richtazz confirm what it costs new. He is our GM/Delco parts expert.

Re: 2002 grand prix gtp brake control module?

the EBCM is the same for all GTP's from 1999-2003. The part number is 88894774 and runs $789.37 dealer wholesale. Actual dealer retail is over $1,000. The part is GTP specific, so one for a like year GT or SE will not work for your car. I would say $199 is an awesome price.

If you were thinking used, here's the part numbers to avoid for reference, as they won't work in your GTP.

the SE models use part #12458914 for model years 2000-2002
the GT models use part # 88894775 for model years 1999-2002

I checked Ed Morad's ebay store with no luck...unless someone else has any suggestions or the direct link to the correct one; i have a 2001 gtp grand prix and just to reconfirm the part # according to my pontiac dealer is in fact 8889774

Any Help would be appreciated thanks

Re: 2002 grand prix gtp brake control module?

welcome to AF mastamind51

The part number they gave you is correct for your vehicle. About all I can suggest is either comb the salvage yards for a 99-03 GTP and verify the part number or bite the big bullet and buy a new one from the dealer. Good-luck!

Re: 2002 grand prix gtp brake control module?

is this a common problem with the grand prix gtp? is it ok to get a used ebcm or is it preferred to get a new one at gmpartsdirect.cxx?

I've seen it as a problem throughout the years here but not necessarily a common problem.

No problem with a used one as long as it is good. The problem with any sources such as the dealership or even gmpartsdirect is the part will be expensive. Also, there are sources that rebuild EBTCM modules.
