Where to buy sheet metal?

I'm thinking about doing some rust repair. I haven't been able to find any automotive sheet metal.

Do I go to a junkyard & cut off what I need or maybe a body shop?

It's not for my Intrigue, it's for the wife's minivan.

Thanks.

Re: Where to buy sheet metal?

There are many sources for sheet metal out there , from salvage yards , to the dealership parts department, to aftermarket companies. Depending on the popularity of your vehicle can determine availability of needed parts. If the van wasn't a high volume model then you may have to rely on an aftermarket company, and if none of those companies carry anything then your only source may be a salvage yard. A name that quickly comes to mind for an aftermarket sheet metal supplier is Keystone.

Re: Where to buy sheet metal?

I know this is the wrong forum for this which is why I didn't mention the make & model.

It's a '00 Dodge Gr. Caravan Sport with rusty rear wheel arches.

I was just looking for about a 36"x 36" sheet of 18-20 ga. & I'd fab.it. I can't find any pre-made for it. It doesn't have to be flawless. I just want to get the "I need a new car" out of the wife's head.

I was on Keystone's site before my original post but it appears to be business to business only.

Re: Where to buy sheet metal?

Since the Obama stimulus many people are upgrading their appliances with their Obama dollars -but that is a free sheet metal source, you enjoying paying for your metal.

Try the farm implement store for smaller sheets, welding store, auto body damaged body panels (free, and maybe easier to cut and fit)

The big yards usually have a 50-100 pound minimum or 50-100$ minimum.
