02 windstar lx - programmable key questions

I just bought this van and only got 1 key with it. I have been doing research about getting another key made and the dealer tells me that it is $110 for them to program another key for me. is there any way for me to either turn off the securiLock system or make another key myself? I saw an article about how to do it but it says you need two keys to program another one on vehicles '98 or later. $110 for a key is highway robbery.

you don't have a choice the new key has to be programmed with fords fsf card in their scan tool, then they have to perform a bunch of PATS security access tests, so they can program your new key to your van specifically, ford is only allowed to do this for the security of the vehicle, its just one of those things you can't bypass

You can call around to some lock smiths.. I have one here that can program them.. He is about half the cost of the dealer.. Just finding one that was willing to spend the money to get the equipment.. Also the only one I have in my city that can laser cut keys.. Other than that dealer the only one.. But once you have 2 keys you can program another your self..
