Unhappy 1999 windstar

i just put a used engine in my van after a year of being put up in a garage. running bad making a poping sound when i try to excelerate and misses. was showing 3 codes, egr valve po171 and po174. changed the egr now showing the latter of two of codes. cleaned maf and my mechanic said it just needs to clean out the old gas out of system.. am now on my second tank. first tank had injector cleaner in it and second tank has v power gas.. not as bad but still gives me poping sound every now and then and it wants to stall at idle at times... when codes are clear it runs good then the engine light comes on and it starts to run bad on ocassion again... havent put more that about 400 miles on it since i replaced the engine... i am a female who knows nothing about vehicles but am trying to learn..please help...

Re: 1999 windstar

Do you hear any hissing around the top of the engine?

Before you start throwing parts at it, start with the simple first and make sure the plenum is sealed properly and the vacuum hoses that attach to it are not leaking. P0171 and P0174 come up when there's too much air getting into the air/fuel mixture and causes the O2 sensors to pop those codes. So there could be a probability that the plenum has a gasket thats not sealing properly or something was left loose (vacuum hose) causing a leak.

If that checks clear then an Isolator bolt fix would need to be performed!
