2000 Town Car - Beeping noise?

Every time i turn the car on, i get this annoying beeping noise. It's usually three consecutive beeps (BEEP BEEP BEEP) then a 2 second pause and then another three beeps. This usually goes on for about a minute then turns off. After about 20 minutes of driving, it starts over again and starts beeping again.

Does anyone have any idea what this can be or how to fix it?

Re: 2000 Town Car - Beeping noise?

Are you sure it's not a series of five beeps? Five beeps at cycle on , then consecutively thereafter is an error in the SRS (safety restraint) system.

Could be as simple as you're not wearing your seat belt to something more complicated like a partial air bag deployment, sensor error, etc.

Have you had your OBDii intermittent stored codes read???

Other beeps (chimes) are related to errors like, windshield washer fluid low, parking brake left engaged, fuel low, etc.

have a look at your Owners Manual at page 14, then 103 thru 105 for some of these 'chime' and 'beep' references.

Here's your >> 2000 Town Car Owners Manual

Re: 2000 Town Car - Beeping noise?

Actually you're correct, it's 5 beeps, not 3.

Looking at the handbook you provided (thanks for the link since i don't have a handbook in the car), the five beeps have to do with an error in the SRS system. "A series of five beeps will be heard. The tone pattern will repeat periodically until the problem and light are repaired"

Any idea how to stop these 5 beeps from going off every half hour? Could it be as easy as pulling a fuse or will it have to be serviced? It's driving me nuts and i'd like to get rid of this asap if possible. Thanks for the help btw.

You will have to have someone with a scanner to scan the computer to tell you the problem, and clear the code. Most likely, when a air bag srs system failure its the clock spring in the steering wheel. Good luck.

Re: 2000 Town Car - Beeping noise?

Can anyone with a diagnostic scanner be able to take care of this? I've got a garage that I go to and they do pretty much everything there... would this place be good or would this need to go to some kind of specialist? Any idea how much something like this would run me?

Yes, go there and they can diagnose the problem. If it is the clock spring, its a moderately hard job, just have to know what your doing. I would not recommended you doing it if your not sure how. Price for the clock spring on my 95 is around 120 and is a dealership only part. Plus labor. Hope this helps

Re: 2000 Town Car - Beeping noise?

thanks man... i'll get that checked out. This beeping is driving me nuts.

Actually one more quick question. Some days (well most) it beeps every half hour, but there will be random days where it won't beep all day. Does it have to be beeping for them to know what the problem is?

Get the codes read.. with intermittent problems, the check engine lamp does not glow.. yet the system stores the faults.

With fingers crossed, the stored codes will tell you and your code reader exactly what the problem is.

It might just be a loose wire on a sensor.. this is actually common on the crash sensor.

Most folks will read your codes for free knowing that you'll be asking them to fix it too.

Good luck.. don't get ripped off !!!

Re: 2000 Town Car - Beeping noise?

I am convinced that its the clock spring. sometimes they make contact and sometimes they don't. Intermittent problem. Yes it will have to be malfunctioning for them to find it.
