Went to wallyworld last night, unlocked the trunk and put a microwave in there. gently closed the trunk as usual and it did not stay closed, the latch on the trunk lid didnt catch on the loop on the trunk body and the loop didn't pull the trunk lid closed. after varying stages of force used to get at least the latch to lock around the loop I tied the trunk closed with rope. checked fuses under drivers side dash and none are blown. is the motor bad? is the latch itself bad? how do itest both for getting power? stupid little Haynes manual doesn't give tests, just removal and install procedures. Help?

Re: 92 deville trunk wont close...
A temporary fix would be realign (adjust) the latch/loop higher to where the trunk grabs it every time. Down side to that is you will now have to slam that Cadillac trunk every time. Ghetto I know. I had a '92 that did the same thing and I'm willing to bet it's the same problem which is the motor. One way to tell for sure since you have already checked the fuse is; with the trunk fully closed (like normal), open it with your key and listen very closely for that motor to run. Chances are it's burned out. Good news is you already have your handy dandy Haynes manual to guide you through the remove and install procedures.
