Groaning struts

I have KYB AGXs and there seems to be a problem. I had Eibach Sportlines before but the ride was too rough so I had H&R OE Sports put on. The problem is when my shocks are compressed they make a groaning sound. I don't remember it making the sound when I had the Eibachs or right after I had the H&Rs put on but the sound started shortly after the H&Rs were installed. I'm not sure if the springs are related. Anyway when I brake quickly the front shocks make this groaning sound and if I accelerate quickly the back shocks do it so I can tell it's whenever they compress quickly. I tried adjusting them to the firmest setting and this decreased the rate of the sound but it was still there. Also if I turn the steering wheel all the way to one side it groans, even more so if moving in reverse. I asked a couple of mechanics if they could tell when it was but they don't know. Before I take all of this apart to look at it does anyone have any idea what it might be? They're not blown at all, it seems like something may be rubbing somewhere in the strut.
