terrible...!!! AM/FM reception

98 GT - I replaced my stock radio with a new JVC one a few months ago to get an AUX connector and fix my AM/FM problems, but no dice. I figure that my rear windows heating elements are for the radio like other cars; but mine are in pristine shape. How can I fix this, I mean, I get static in my cities most power FM station, which is the most powerful in Canada I believe, and get NO AM reception...

There is an antenna module near the passenger side c-pillar under the headliner that enables the rear grid antenna function. In the past before you totally lost reception, did your reception get worse when the rear defogger was turned on, then get better when it turned off? If so, the antenna module is your issue for sure. GM #16213462.

" not sure where that is or what you're referring to. what would I need to do to check this out and what would I need to look for? On these cars, the radio antenna is the rear defogger grid. There is a module that isolates the radio antenna cable from the voltage when the defogger is on.

Is this something I can do on my own, or should I hit some shop with it. (no car experience except for the basics)

It's basically plug and play (there's no programming needed), so if you have the ability to remove the trim panels and drop the headliner down to get at it, you can replace it yourself.
