Car pollution

I have an 03 cavalier 2.2l ecotec and was checking out on EPA type shit and it rated my car a 2 for pollution (10 is the best.) Is there anything I can do to make that better?

Re: Car pollution

While you can't increase that number, you can keep it there by doing regular maintenance. Tune-ups, oil changes, checking the alignment any time you do anything that could change it (hitting bumps hard, loosening/removing any steering or suspension component, etc). I would also check it every time you install new tires, it's the perfect time to have it checked because the tires are nice and square, and you want to keep them that way. I personally think that number is BS, I've looked at vehicles on there before, and they seem to be very biased towards imports. I know imports are a bit better for fuel consumption in many cases, but Cavaliers get about the same mileage as civics/corollas/sentras. Why then would they do so much worse for pollution? That just doesn't make sense. Also keep in mind that that "2/10" is not a scale from no pollution to lots of pollution, it simply means that in a narrow part of the scale, it's at the bottom of that part.

Re: Car pollution

I'm not sure what that webpage was comparing your car to, maybe compared to planting a tree? But as far as cars go I think an '03 Cav with an Ecotech would be more like an 7-8 ,with small hybrids being 10.

Re: Car pollution

the only way really thinking about it would to make fuel burn more efficantly....i personally have a 96 with a 2.2 and i have platnum plus 4's for plugs and some good wires and a cold air intake and i get better gas mileage then my brothers del sol with a 1.5 in it....i get around 30 mpg depending on where and how fast i drive etc. i get just as good of gas mileage as a bunch of my friends with hondas and for the most part better then some of them too....i think that that website is bs considering my 92 accord with a 2.2 only was getting 23 when i got rid of it....idk just my opinion

Re: Car pollution

The EPA doesn't know s***. They give a 4.3L S-10 1 mpg better than a full size with the 5.7L. I looked when I was considering a 4x4 s-10, and when I saw those numbers, I knew it was all BS. The rwd s-10 I had got 25 pretty easily, my 4x4 Silverado gets 12. 13>1, and even the heaviest axle and transfer case wouldn't drop it that much.

I'm tellin' ya man, it's all a conspiracy! Or rather, I would tell you, but then I'd sound crazy.

Re: Car pollution

Oh yeah, I've never had faith in the government anyway let alone the EPA. It says that my car gets like 6 less than what it does. I get 28 city 34 or 32 highway depending. I also try to use my brakes less lol, I also don't get up to speed quickly unless I'm trying to show up a "bro" with a mustang or any pontiac.
