2004 cavalier 2.2 service lights

I have a 2004 cavalier 2.2l when I put the car in gear the car hesitates and like sputters almost as if its goin to stall. When this happens the abs light, trac off and service lights all come on. I had the computer checked for codes and there are no codes. The service guy cleared the computer and the problems stopped for a couple days before it continued to happen. Any help would be great as I nor the guy I took it to had any ideas as to what could be wrong?? Thanks in advance

Jim

Something's wrong here. If the SES or ABS light is on, there will be a code. Take it to someone with a good scan tool, preferably one that reads ABS codes. A lot of the cheap ones only read P-codes, some don't even do P1xxx or P2xxx. Does it only do it when you shift to drive, or all the time it's in drive? Does it do it in 2nd or 1st?

Re: 2004 cavalier 2.2 service lights

The lights are on all the time but the hesitation only occurs when you shift from park to reverse or drive. Then once the lights come on the car drives normal but the lights stay on. The guy has a good machine and he said it does check abs but couldnt find anything he told me to take it to a dealer. The guy I went to is a family friend so I trust him but I'm trying to avoid paying a dealer.

Some of the better independent shops can do everything the dealer can do (except for things that GM requires you to have a dealership# to access). You don't necessarily have to go to the dealer, but we really can't help much unless we have somewhere to start. Just a shot in the dark here, but check the motor mounts. It's possible that the engine is rocking too much and pulling on a wire or vacuum line and causing a problem there. Not likely since it doesn't do it on acceleration, but it's probably worth checking. Maybe you'll get lucky and someone will have had this same problem, but without the code(s) anything I tell you will just be a guess
