Tune up parts

What are the best parts off the parts house shelf (toyota or aftermarket) for a tune up i.e. plugs, wires, air filter, etc. Part numbers as well if you have them available. Mine is a '98 4 runner with the 2.7 liter 4 banger, automatic tranny, two wheel drive. Pretty boring really but it still runs pretty good - just starting to consistently miss at idle, and mileage is off a bit - all after 96000 miles. It's been approximatelly 42000 since last tune up parts were installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Re: Tune up parts

The best parts are Denso or NGK. Don't use Bosch in Toyota engines.

For plugs I would buy Denso K16R-U as a standard plug or Denso SK16PR-F8 if you plan on keeping the truck for a while. The SK16 cost $12 each vs $2.40 for the standard plugs, but they will last a long time. Probably for the life of the truck. A medium priced Denso is PK16R8 at $6.90.

The NGK equivalents are BKR5ES at $2.40 or BKR5EGP at $3.15 or BKR5EIX at $7.80.
I have no preference between these brands.

NGK TX67 is a good set of plug wires at $43.

For air filters, I prefer ACDelco (part no A1232C, $25) or Purolator (part no A24645, $25). I would replace the air filter more often that every 40K.

Change PCV valve also. ACDelco part no 214-2002 or Purolator part no. PV1038

Prices are from sparkplugs.com or manufacturer

Re: Tune up parts

Don't forget the fuel filter. I also used OEM for filters like that. I am sure there are equally comparable aftermarket filters available though.

Re: Tune up parts

If you want OEM parts, 1sttoyotaparts.com and partznet.com are 2 Toyota dealers that sell online at a good discount.
