sputtering, multiple misfire code, CPS?

2001 grand am 4cyl. Throwing a multiple misfire code and sputtering. What is the likelihood that this is a faulty crank position sensor?

Re: sputtering, multiple misfire code, CPS?

Did you try clearing the codes ??

If it was your crank sensor it would probly throw a code for that as well.

Have you checked/replaced your plugs/boots/coils and the ICM ?

Also check that the injectors are firing, and the proper ohms resistance and that the Injector wiring harness isnt damaged.

The codes have been coming and going. I read that I might not get a CEL for a bad CPS. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...71&postcount=2

This is true, you wont always get a light/dtc.
but I wouldnt jump that far ahead just yet.

As I had previously asked have you replaced anything in the ignition system, plugs/boots/coils/ICM ?

Usualy misfires are from one of those components. If those are tip top shape then start looking at the fuel side of things, injectors/wiring.

Hope that helps
