Need to replace Z71 bearings

The bearings are gone on the right rear of my 98 Z71. Can I do this myself or should I bring it some where? Also, should I do both sides? I've done ball joints, idler arm, starter, exc...so I think I could do it. Any help would be appreciated.

the rear bearings and seals should be replaced together.....both.

the diff fluids will also be replaced and make sure the internal magnet and diff is cleaned ..

the axles will need removal and if the plates are rusted replace them at this time..

Re: Need to replace Z71 bearings

Turns out its not the wheel bearings its a bearing or retaining clip in the diff. The right rear tire moves in and out about 1/4 inch ( which is why I assumed wheel bearings). The left side seems fine, so now what?

Replace your c clips if you want, but I've never had any vehicle up in the air that didn't have some play end to end.

the axle has to be pushed into the side gears, then the c clip installed, and the axle pulled back out to seat the c clip into the side gear, so there has to be some movement, the difference between c clips in and seated, no way around it. They can get excessive I guess if the side gears or c clips have some wear, but they will never be "tight" with c clip design. If a full floater had play, ya theres problems, but this design will always have some.

the axle should move inward out ward a small amount...
when it gets excessive you have wear in the diff...gears...this may be adjusted ...with shims..the gear teeth wear pattern should be checked. if the wear pattern is proper you have no problems ...

is this an issue,,, or are you just looking at things that you think is a problem...
