1970 Dodge Challenger

Hi guys!

Just finished this low ambition build, just a quickie for the love of building something from start to finish in a couple of weeks on and off building.

It's Monograms old RT-Challenger that I had laying around in bits and pieces, had to raid the parts box to get it finished. Other then the wheels (Pegasus Hollis) and some missing parts it's OOB without any extras at all.

Paintwork is Zero coarse and fine candy base, electric blue candy and 2-pack clear. Primed with Füllprimer.








Just saw that I managed to turn all wheels but one in the wrong direction, very annoying as I cant do anything about it without breaking something

Very cool build. Wouldn't worry about the tires, doesn't effect it at all. Nice color and the flat black is a great contrast. Might want to try some panel lines if you can. But as is its killer! Nice work.

The panel lines is fine but the light makes them look brighter then they are, almost like the clear has etched the candy away although it hasn't. But maybe some smoke will tone that effect down a bit. I will give it a go, thank's for the advice.

I know what you meen with the missing plate, thing is I ran out of ink for the printer so it's coming any day now. I'll post a pic when it's there.

Come to think about another thing that I didn't mention. The vinyl roof is made with Modelmaster semi-gloss acrylic sprayed straight from the bottle. A little more pressure and some distance makes it go a bit wrinkled giving a pretty good impression of vinyl.

This is how it was made, with all the trouble it gave me on this particular build.

First of all I masked of the outline at the back.

...and then made the cut and pulled of the excess masking tape.


This isn't anything thats very precise but an approximation of a Challenger vinyl top and to get the impression of a seam I masked of the center section and then sprayed the side sections first...

...leaving me with this.

After that dried for about 15 minutes I masked off the sides leaving a little from the side sections out in the free.

After spraying the center section disaster struck while pulling the mask off.

Luckily it was reparable to a quite good status.

As this wasn't enough, I managed to rip out quite a big section when pulling the rest of the mask.

This wasn't possible to repair as good as up on the roof but it's more obvious in the picture then in real life so I can live with it.


Lesson learned (and soon forgot again?) that acrylic needs a bit more time to "bite" in to the suface.

That's about it on creating a vinyl top. It can be made with Tamiya acrylics too, but that will render you a more coarse vinyl look. A bit out of scale compared to Modelmaster.

Fantastic model - it's really gorgeous. Sorry about the masking problem, I wonder if you could have done it by just laying a thin strip of masking tape where the ridge is and then painting it all in one go, leaving the tape entombed.

Nice! That looks great! Shame about the roof but you did a great repair job and it does not notice. I have had things like that happen too so I know how you feel. It is so annoying when something like that happens especially when so much time has been spent already!
