Engine Swap

I have a 92 VR4 that requires a new engine, however, I have a 2nd generation VR4 engine already. Is it possible to put the newer engine in the older car along with the six speed transmission. Or leave the transmission off and stick with the five speed. Will everything bolt up easy or do I need some adaptors. Also, will the old wiring harness hook up or do i need a new one. Thanks.

Ryan

if you go with the newer engine then you have to have the six speed transmission to go with it

If you go with the new engine and the six speed, you'll have some issues. Stop here http://www.stealth316.com/ and here www.3si.org and you'll get better specifics on your options. Good luck.

Re: Engine Swap

Sorry Guys but your wrong. In a 3000GT you can put any engine or tranny on any motor. Trust me I'm doing it now. The wire harness on the newer motors are the same as your 92 VR4. The computer from your 92 will also work. If you drag race the 5 speed has better gear ratios for it, if you cruise or take long trips-- it's nice to have an extra gear. The motor swap is not that tough just alittle time consuming-- I am swapping a SOHC to a 92 VR4 motor-- Also a ATX tranny to a Gtrag 5 speed ( this needed a little modifing for a FWD). But all in all RCFREMONT you are good to go with what you have. If you have any questions hit me up at [email protected]-- take care Dee

if you do take the 6 speed you will also need the transfer case and rear diff.

Re: Engine Swap

Good point Talskinyguy. That's true about the t-fer case and rear diff. Also the shift cables for the 6 speed also. The 5 speeds will hook up, but I am told it won't shift smoothly.
