Hard start, run, idle, it doesn't do anything right.

Hello,

I have a 1993 s-10 Blazer 4wd. When I start it hot I have to push the gas to the floor for it to start. It has a very rough, occasionally stalling idle and has some random misses when the gas pedal is pushed. The only difference when it is cold is that it starts normal then begins the symptoms after a few seconds. It has a bad sulfer smell. This happened as if something broke as in "all of a sudden".

I do have a possibly related problem that slowly came on over the past few weeks. A feather light touch of the throttle in neutral would cause the engine to fluctuate from 500 to 1100 rpm. After 1100 rpm it was gone. The idle was fine though, no wandering at all.

I had a stuck egr a few months ago with simular symptoms except there was no sulfer smell then and it ran almost perfect with throttle. I also got a code then.

I have no codes this time
I'm going to check the EGR anyways when i get it home from work tomorrow.

Anything else come to anyone's mind to check?

Thanks,
-Mark

If it were me I would pull the intake cover and check for any fuel leaks. Sounds like the "nut kit" or regulator started leaking. You can also check for fuel pressure and leakdown.

I agree: pull the plenum, turn the ignition to the RUN position, engine off, and you'll find a fuel leak. After it's repaired, change the oil and oil filter.

^ and clean the EGR, reinstalling with a screened gasket.

Thanks, I will check that tomorrow. I did pull the EGR and I found a strange sight. A rock somehow found it's way through the engine and jammed itself into the valve opening causing it to stick open. It's back about to 90% but it's still running rich.

That's not a rock, it's a chunk of carbon. It's there because you're running rich.

You need to look under the upper intake plenum for fuel leaks, as old master said.
