'96 Del Sol door latch problem

I'm getting metal cracking on the inside of the door jam where the U shaped latch attaches. Mostly on the driver side but also on the pass side too. It's causing the latch to bend out when the door is closed so the door no longer stays flush when closed. Last spring I welded the cracks and ground it down and repainted, but the cracks and deflection have returned. I'm wondering if I have to somehow reinforce the back side of the latch area? Anyone else experience similar issues with a del sol?

I have the same cracking on my '93, I think it is just metal fatigue so you would probably have to cut out the area and weld in a new thicker piece to prevent it from happening again. I can't think of a way just to add a plate to the back and prevent the cracking, you wouldn't really be able to weld it so you would have to use high strength adhesives.
But thats just my 2 cents.
