how much power can be lost with to busted mufflers? will this stop you from doing burnouts? My car is a 95 chevy caprice 5.7. how much horsepower can you gain with flowmaster. also what is the difference bewteen cop and regula 5.7.

There is NO difference between the "cop 5.7l" and the regular one. Get that 70s and 80s idea right out of your head. by the 90s there was essentially NOTHING on a 9C1 that was any meanigful upgrade from a civilian car.

It had "lifetime" silicon coolant hoses which are hideous and very soft so while they don't deteriorate they are highly prone to chaffing damage. The rear disc brakes got the same drum proportioning valve as the other cars so they don't work except under panic stop conditions. The 3.08 gears from the civilian 2.93 is almost meaningless.
They had stiffer springs but are taller meaning higher center of gravity so no real handling benefit there.
They had an external oil cooler as opposed to the in radiator one the civilian cars had. MIGHT be preferable for hours spent parked in a median idling with the AC on, but for a driver I will take the in radiator oil cooler that REGULATES oil temp with coolant temps as opposed to the blind cooling of the 9C1 setup.

I suppose the only real "upgrade" left is they put the trunk release button outside the glove box so it is accessible, that is a real upgrade.

Oh and the speed limiter was higher because they were available with high speed rated tires.

A rotten out muffler wont cost any power, might acutally improve it. Flowmasters are NOT a particularly good muffler. If you like the sound go for it, but don't make yourself believe they are great.

As you modify your car you will come to understand much of the aftermarket is based on advertizing MORE than results.

The stock pipes are horribly restrictive I would suggest a whole catback kit. The Dynomax is great but pricey due to polished stainless mufflers and tips, a lot of guys buy those pipes seperately and then use different mufflers.

More myths you can forget is that deleteing the cats and resonators is worth a lot of power, the cats cost very little power if they are in good shape and the resonators cost nothing compared to the highly restrictive system in front of them.

usually the internal wear of the engine componets will cause a loss of power...

the other cause may be a fuel supply issue...or restictive exhaust [bad cat] ......

the KS could be out of range causing the timing to be retarded..
