1988 k1500 4wd acuator question

Should the acuator plug on a 1988 k1500 that plugs into the 4wd acuator have power to both pins or terminals when the transfer case is engaged in
4wd?? I only have power to one terminal when engaged in 4wd and it loses power when shifted out if 4wd and was wondering if that is normal. The acuator is not engaging and was wondering if the acuator is bad or if both terminals on the plug should be hot when engaged.

Re: 1988 k1500 4wd acuator question

I'm 99% sure that's the way it's supposed to be. If no one has responded by tomorrow morning I'll go out and check. The actuators routinely go out and are readily available at parts stores nowadays and aren't too expensive either. There is an upgrade you can do to the electric actuator if you are interested. That'll eliminate the lag between shifting into 4wd and it actually engaging.

just power to one of the wires, usually the light blue when in 4x4 unless you have the updated actuator(plastic housing and three wire connector) then it should have power to a brown wire whenever the ignition is on and power to the light blue only when in 4x4

One wire should be fused 12 volts and other on is ground.

If power on both pins it is losing ground on ground wire.

Yes there is only supposed to be power to one wire in 4wd. the actuater is a very common failure. dont 2nd guess yourself just replace it.
