91 wing removal?
so this is along the lines of weight reduciton mostly. we were posting about it in the off-topic thread but its not really off topic so. . .
to the point: i'm trying to shave unneeded poundage, but i also just like the wing-less look. my main question is if removing the wing would have a noticeable negative effect on aerodynamic properties. |

Re: 91 wing removal?
depends how fast ur going really, and what type of wing is it? does it have active areo? plus there will be some ugly holes in your trunk to contend with.

Re: 91 wing removal?
Active aero has been proven to be VERY effective. Keep it.

Re: 91 wing removal?
i'm with stealthee. asthetics aside, if you plan on using the car's performance, the rear AA wing has been independently wind tunnel tested to neutralize lift at speed, and it does so with no significant increase in drag.
Whats the reason for the crazy dieting anyways? looking into drags/autocross? |

Re: 91 wing removal?
alright then looks like the wing is staying.
but yeah autostrada i hardly drive it as is, and i'm picking up a bike in may so i'll really have a chance to work on it. i wanna gear it more towards autocross type stuff. not really big on straight line speed |

Re: 91 wing removal?
if you want simple weight reduction, remove the rear seats(though only a few pounds) and different wheels. for further weight reduction, fiberglass hood, fenders, and whatever else is out there, but that's where it gets expensive

Re: 91 wing removal?
To me, the best way to lose weight and still keep your interior is get the IPS SS which saves approx 70lbs and will give you some power as well. After that, get lighter wheels which can shave a fair amount of weight off as well. Between those two mods alone, you can already shave off more than 100lbs. If you want another (I think it is about 40-60lbs) weight off your car, remove your AWS. PMP carries this to delete your AWS: http://www.pricematchedparts.com/ind...=2985&parent=4
And if that still isn't enough, when you race take out your spare and jack. By then (even before removing your spare) you will have shedded some pretty decient weight.

Re: 91 wing removal?
thanks for the tips guys. i've actually been considering that single shot, not just for weight. cuz it also sounds good! but about the wheels, i'm having trouble finding wheels that look like theyll clear the calipers. furthermore, hardly any of them have weight listed with the adds. do any companies in particular have a good selection of wheels thatll fit? i'd really like to go staggered (maybe 18x9 front and 18x10 rear). would 10 be too wide?

Re: 91 wing removal?
10 souldnt be too wide, but 18s usually r a lot heavier then 17s.....duh right. most people use 17s simplybecause u still get good ride qualiy with 245 45 17, the light weight wheels out there, and u still have a low pro or med pro look

Re: 91 wing removal?
Stay away from staggered. 9" wide is good enough for all four corners.
