Question Injector Seats

99 Pontiac GTP 130K . . . decided to R/R the FPR on the zzp fuel rails w/ braided line because my fuel pressure was low out of specs. Removed the half that the FPR resides on and noticed a chunk was missing out of each of the injector seats also looked at the bottom of of one of the injectors and it was missing a chunk out of it in the exact same spot the injector seat was missing. See photos.

Injector Seat. . .

Bottom of injector. . .

I'm wondering if this could be an expensive fix? PIA fix, if so what would it entail? Needs to be fixed at all? Even possibly the reason my car won't start right now!?

Re: Injector Seats

I think that you are going to have to replace the injectors. And remove the missing part from the injector port.

Re: Injector Seats

Is that the only injector seat bad? You can try taking the cylinder head to an automotive machine shop for repair but in a worse case you will need to replace the respective cylinder head.

BTW - Your image hosting service leaves a lot to be desired. Too slow loading.

Re: Injector Seats

Bob, is his cylinder head shot, or can he just dig that plastic chunk out and replace the single fuel injector.

Second that, I also use imageshack, but the way I do it is to edit copy, edit paste the "direct link to image" into the "insert image" box on AF.

Works perfect. (at least no issues yet)

I really can't tell by his pics Tim. We need a better closeup and better resolution on the pic. If it is just the plastic tip or any part of the fuel injector stuck in there try pulling it out and then just clean the injector boss/port so the injector o-ring gets a good seal. If the seat is damaged then it may be more serious.

Re: Injector Seats

Can you use a machinist scribe to possibly to pull it out of the injector's ports. Does that happen ofter or is it a rare occurrence.

Re: Injector Seats

You know that doesn't look too good and I see from the better pics many injector ports are affected. I've never seen this occur on any L67 cylinder head. I'm trying to figure out what may have caused it. Weird!

From what I see the cylinders head(s) could be salvaged by removing the old injector port insert and installing a new one matching it to the new injector and o-ring seal. But then again they will have to be taken off the engine and to an automotive machine shop that does this type of work. Or new or used (pull) cylinder head.

Re: Injector Seats

They shouldnt be pressed in. Looks like you have to pull the head.

I hope mine dont come out like this when I change my LIM gaskets or I'll be screwed.

Re: Injector Seats

I guess it could be a casting defect but we really don't know for sure. To the OP is it stock or modded, i.e. supercharger pulley mod other than the ZZP fuel rails? Long term effects of detonation/KR?

Re: Injector Seats

I actually never had the car scanned for KR, as I finally just got around to buying a scanner last month (the car wasn't running then. . !) The majority of the car's life was spent in cold Montana winters, until this last year I have moved to hot Arizona. But here is the mod list:

2006 digital hp PCM
2006 3.4" pulley
2006 zzp trailing arms
2006 tranny cooler (yeah I was a sucker)
2006 180 thermostat
2006 had mufflers and pipe after the cat work done have to look up the manufacturer and diameter I went with, nothing really extreme but a poor man's attempt at getting a cat-back exhaust

2007 New Coupler and bearings in the s/c
2007 eibach pro kit lowering springs
2007 viper 2way remote alarm w/ remote start, window and sunroof mods
2007 replaced starter

2008 zzp alternator power wire
2008 zzp alternator voltage booster
2008 zzp ported s/c w/ inlet and outlet work
2008 zzp ported LIM
2008 zzp full size stage 3 IC, heat exchanger w/ GM pump
2008 wizaired CAI
2008 zzp throttle body spacer
2008 zzp fuel rals
2008 zzp HID kit
2008 DRL fuse removed
2008 zzp upper strut tower brace
2008 while t/s have installed zzp PCM 1.0
2008 while t/s fuel resistor moved to engine bay

Seemingly always had trouble with the sensors (CKPS, IAC and TPS) on the car going bad but nothing other than the rear valvetrain seal leaking oil and a few idle pulleys been required r&r. I have yet to check the injector seats on the front of the engine, hopefully I'll get some pics posted tonight.

Re: Injector Seats

Just checked 1, 3, 5 injector seats on the front and they're perfect other than needing a little cleaning. You know if I'm going to r&r heads and since this is going to turn into a project car any recommendations on what mods to do next? That is of course inclusive of the repair?
