Question 2002 Honda Accord -- What Service Should I Get?

Hi! I have a 2002 Honda Accord that has not been driven for nearly a year (I stupidly let the registration expire because I hardly drove it anyway)--except 5 months ago when gave it a hot-shot and drove it around my complex for 15 minutes just to let the battery get some juice. The battery started dying probably in August 2008 and died for good in late 2008. I have not jump-started the car for at least 2-3 months (maybe 4 or 5) and has been in my garage since the registration expired May 2008. I need new tires (2 were good and 2 were bad but 1 of the good ones went flat in Oct.), a new battery and servicing. Beside the battery and tires, what service would be essential for my car at first? I know there are probably some issues with my car sitting for so long. (My car is in great condition and had no problems before.) I lost my job in November and money is limited so I want to only get done what is imperative right now. I will get it fully serviced once I gain employment again. Thanks!

Re: 2002 Honda Accord -- What Service Should I Get?

Oil separates, gets full of condensation and forms acids when let sit like that. Change the oil.

Fill the fuel tank, add some fuel line deicer/dryer to rid it of any condensation that may have built in the gas tank.

Brake calipers may have gotten a bit stuck in all that time...watch for signs of dragging (brake shudder when applied, hot wheel after driving, etc)...but probably they will be fine. Just pounce on them hard a couple of times after driving it a bit, make sure you're getting what you expect if needed. Rotors may be a bit surface rusty, this will clean them off too.

Make sure there's no rodent/bird nests or stashes in the air cleaner or under the hood. You laugh, but I saw it many times in the shop on cars that sat a lot, even in garages. Sometimes the airbox would be stuffed fulla acorns and sunflower seeds...chipmunks...

Saw one get an engine fire from it...mouse built a nest from chewed up newspapers they had in the garage....right on top of the exhaust manifold.

Can't really think of much else....
