Re: stuck in 4wd 85 cherokee
try driving the thing in reverse for a while then see if it will get back to 2wd. This helps the drivertrain switch back to 2wd. good luck

Re: stuck in 4wd 85 cherokee
Make sure you are not on hard pavement when you try to get out of 4wd. Also, put it in 1st gear, and add gas and let off the gas a few times until you get the 'clunk'. If these don't work, your 25 year old vehicle might need some work; but usually it's a matter of getting things working again, and after that long without being shifted in and out it will be a bit stiff for awhile.
Note on 4wd Low: You need to have the transmission in neutral, and be moving 2-3 mph for it to go into 4 Lo. If you tried to shift on the fly, you might damage something in the Tcase.

maybe your linkage to your t case needs adjustment.

Re: stuck in 4wd 85 cherokee
a switch? is it manual or auto tcase in my sami (manual) it can be hard to shift becuse if there is load on the t case rock it alittle and shift also if lock the hubs usually easier to shift or unlock?
I had a bronco (auto) that the 4wd went out it was the solinoid motor that engaged the auto 4wd usually theres a way to get it out with a screw driver but it's a pain. |
