window problem

i have a 97 passat that recently developed a strange problem. the driver,s window goes down fine but will only go up to about 1 inch from the top, then i hear a clicking noise that only stops when i hit the down button for a second. i currently leave it up with come duct tape covering the gap but with summer coming it would be nice to put it down. any ideas etc. are much appreciated.. sam

Re: window problem

Sounds like you have some teeth broken off on the gear on the window regulator. Not sure however, you need to remove your door panel and check it out.

Does the window look like it's crooked or anything, maybe one of the tracks came loose instead causing the window to get wedged to where it will no longer go up, not sure.
