Re: 02 gtp ect location
Below the thermostat housing on the lower intake manifold. Just follow the upper radiator hose towards the engine.

Re: 02 gtp ect location
Yes. A small wiring harness and typical GM electrical connector.

Re: 02 gtp ect location
If you replace it due to failure, make sure and clear the DTC that was stored or else the PCM wont know the problem has been repaird.

Re: 02 gtp ect location
Diagnostic Trouble Code
Are you getting a SES/CEL light (check engine) or why are you looking at an ECT? What problem are you having?

Re: 02 gtp ect location
My temperature gauge is going up only 1/4 of the way..
and I read somewhere here to change the tstat and the ect and should solve the problem. Now how do I clear that DTC? |

Re: 02 gtp ect location
I see. I'd do the thermostat first. Plus you know you can check resistance of the ECT with a multimeter (DMM) and check calibration based on temperature. That way you don't have to waste money.
What DTC was it? DTCs can be cleared with an odb-ii scan tool or it will clear after a few drive cycles without doing a reset.

Re: 02 gtp ect location
I agree with Bob, My track record isnt so good with replacing parts that arent bad yet. If it aint broke, dont fix it.
Just replace the T-stat. On the 3800, the PCM and temp guage both get their readings from the same sensor. If there sensor were bad, the PCM would set a DTC and the check engine light would illuminate. If your not getting an SES light, dont worry about changing the ECT sensor. Besides its sort of a pain in the butt to get to on the 3800 anyways.

Re: 02 gtp ect location
I was lucky enough to be able to loosen the wishbone bracket on the motor and just slide it out of the way. Then I had to use a wrench to get ect sensor out of there (19mm I believe). No matter what I did I could not get a socket on it due to the angle (not like the 3100).
