2001 Grand Prix fuel gauge always reads full

My 2001 Grand Prix fuel guage always reads full to 3/4 full even when the fuel tank is almost empty. Sometimes when I start it up, the gauge will read accurate, but when I start moving, it goes right back to full.
I use the display that shows how much fuel was used, and it is accurate

It sounds like the fuel level sending unit is flaky which is a common problem.

DO you know where the the level sending unit is located? If so how do you access it?

I am sure you can get just the sending unit on that one.Check the dealer on this and bring your insurance slip, dealer needs the vin off it to get the part.If not,you have to replace the fuel pump and stick with a Delphi pump.

It is part of the fuel pump assembly but can be replaced separately. See link below located at our Tips & Maintenance subforum.

Access is via the trunk through a removable cover. The gas tank does not need to be dropped.

where would you suggest I get a sending unit, and what brand? How much would a resonable price on a sending unit be?

The dealer only and bring in the insurance slip for the VIN so you get the right one like I mentioned.

Stick with the AC Delco brand. No aftermarket even though they are available. Just send me a PM message for an authorized AC Delco supplier. This source is not the stealership. Cost $85 plus S/H.
