My old 95 truck has a stinky exhaust. I realize they all do but mine is really really bad. I assume it is running to rich but it runs good. Don't use any oil but does have 245k on it. I have rebuilt the lower end w/new bearings. It has lots of newer parts on it but still stinks. There is no ses light on either...I'm lost.

Re: 95 Silverado 350 TBI running rich??
Can you describe the kind of stink? Is there smoke as well?
Fuel? Likely running rich and won't always set off the SES light. Could be partially clogged injectors, plugged/stuck PCV, EGR, and/or IAC valves. Acrid? That along with bluish smoke is burning oil. A top end job may be warranted, but run a compression check too. Sweet? That along with lingering whitish smoke is coolant from a leaking intake manifold gasket. Sulfur/rotten egg? That is related to the catalytic converter. Not exactly sure what causes the smell, but could be overheating, clogging, or a combo of both. Hope this helps!

Re: 95 Silverado 350 TBI running rich??
It don't smell like rotten eggs really...more just like it is "choking" or getting to much gas. There is no smoke at all...even at night in the headlights of the cars behind me. I have cleaned the EGR and put a new PVC on it. It does not burn or use oil at all. It does not smell sweet like antifreeze..unfortunatily...I know that smell all too well!! (from my other car) I just had a small shop check it and said he cleaned the injectors and fixed some kind flapper in the air cleaner bowl thing. It still smells bad though. Maybe not as bad.
