Exclamation Fuel Pump Relay?

Yesterday i installed a kill switch on the power line going to the fuel pump. Tested it out, drove around the block, worked perfectly. Today i left and i got half a mile when the pump dies, the power steering/brakes go out, and my check battery and check oil light come on.

checked the switches, they were all good. it just cranks over and over.

so logically i just reconnected the original wires to the fuel pump assuming something came loose or crossed on the way to the switch.

still wont start. im thinking its the relay... but would that explain everything else that died with it? is the circuit opening relay in charge of all those things?

Thanks in advance

Re: Fuel Pump Relay?

Could have been just coincidentally be that something else went bad. Check to make sure you are getting spark, and fuel also when trying to crank, and get back and let us know.

Checked and checked, its definitely something connected with my kill switch endeavor. i think its weird that whatever it was affected more than just the fuel pump which is why im thinking its a relay or fuse somewhere

Re: Fuel Pump Relay?

Just wondering, does your switch you use have the three prongs where you hook one up to ground and it causes the switch to light up when it is on?

Re: Fuel Pump Relay?

What is the year of your truck and which engine do you have?

"Today i left and i got half a mile when the pump dies, the power steering/brakes go out, and my check battery and check oil light come on."
If the engine dies the items you mention will go out, so if you are accurately describing your problem that is a normal condition.

There isn't a single relay controlling all those items. At the top of this forum there is a link to some shop manuals, use them to find information specific to your vehicle.

I'm not clear if you have returned everything back to normal and you still have the problem?

How did you wire the kill switch? Hope you didn't kill your computer in the process.

Clifton

Re: Fuel Pump Relay?

Problem fixed, somewhere along the wire it shorted against the frame and it blew the EFI fuse. Thank you!
