Red face Fuel Guage

Hey all, My girlfriend has a 2002 Chevrolet Impala. The fuel guage seems to be shifted to where the car runs out of gas when the guage says it is half full (or half empty) and it will not say that it is over the full mark. It is extremly annoying. Also, the blinkers won't turn on from time to time unless I turn on and off the hazrads. I'm a do it yourself until it come to an instrument cluster. Should I take it in to the dealership or just drop the tank, replace the sending unit, and hope the blinkers fix themselfs? Sorry for the long ramble but any advice will help.

Thanks

Re: Fuel Guage

fuel issue, yeah probly the sending unit. my wifes lumina did the same thing. but i said it was always full. replaced the sending unit and it has been fine ever since.

as far as the blinkers i would try a new flash canister. it might be internal on the switch or something like that. pretty much get them to work and figure out where the clicking noise for the blinkers is coming from. the hazards i believe are on a seperate relay/canister. if you can get the blinkers to NOT work, try tapping the canister, if they start working after doing so i would say thats your problem.

Sincerely,
Impala Racer

Re: Fuel Guage

Fuel gauge is probably a bad Sending unit as was said. Tank doesn't have to be dropped, theres an access hatch under the trunk/back seat to get at it.

Turn signals are built into the Hazard switch. starting to go by the sounds of it, not too hard to change. Just have to pull the dash off (which is easy in these cars. like 6 screws)
