1994 Eagle TalonHELP!!!

I have a 94 eagle talon with a sohc 1.8 engine with manual transmission. The problem is that when I try to start the car it will crank over but it wont fire. I took all of the wires off one by one checking to make sure they were getting actual fire....the spark was very weak and seem like it was not enough to fire the car over. Any suggestions?

Check to make sure you are getting fuel first. I would try to just crank it like this before checking anything else, spray starter fluid into you throttle body, if you can get it started then the problem is more likely fuel related. If it is b/c of the spark being weak like you say it could possibly be the ignition coil.

Not a fuel problem....I can push start the car and throw it into gear and it starts right up no problem. While its running I get a really good spark out of it when I pull the wire off the boot and then when I kill it and try to start it again the spark is very weak.

That bit of info could have helped earlier, I'm thinking it is not your coil then.

The problem seems to be that your starter is drawing so much current that it is taking away from your ignition system while trying to crank your vehicle. Have you tried another battery, or having someone give you a boost? See if you can crank it that way, probably the battery. Maybe a short somewhere in the wiring going to your starter draining the system while trying to crank. Or maybe a loose connection somewhere. Make sure all connections at your battery are tight, all ground wires you can find, and make sure your ignition coil is secured tightly.

Starter is brand new, Battery is Brand New....All wiring is brand new. Still has a weak spark.

Re: 1994 Eagle TalonHELP!!!

Either way, you know that with the key in the on position and rolling it off you can get it started just fine. That tells you that you do not have a problem with your ignition coil.

The only problem is when you try to start it using the key, you say then you have a week spark when trying to turn it over. I didn't say that absolutely meant you have a bad starter or battery. I said it could be. Or it could be a loose connection somewhere, just because you have new wiring doesn't mean you can't have a bad connection.

I know this is going to sound like an oddball way to test but pull up another vehicle to yours, get out some jumper cables, not to jump it off the old fashioned way. Put your key in the on position. Make sure you have your car in park. Hook jumper cables up to the other car, and the other end hook the ground somewhere under your car on a ground and hold the positive cable end to the big wire connector on your starter. If your vehicle starts just fine that will tell you that you have a weak connection somewhere. And by the way, just because you have new parts doesn't mean they are good.

Re: 1994 Eagle TalonHELP!!!

Hey bud no need to get all defensive about the thread. I never said that they were sure sure parts because they were new. Just said that I had replaced all of em. Also the car doesn't go into park when it's a standard just nuetral with the parking brake on. I will try the starter jump but I am 100% positive that my connections are all legit. I will check again and try your diagnose out and will see which comes to par. Let you know tomorrow when I have done it. Thanks for your help and don't get so worked up over internet forums man...its just typed words.

Sry, I wasn't trying to be defensive, and I missed that where you said it was a manual, so yeah, instead put it in neutral with parking break on. Sorry if I sounded rude I wasn't trying to.

Might want to try changing your crank sensor. Not familiar with this car but I'm resonably sure that it has one.
