Re: 1/12th GT40

July, supposedly. $259.95 retail. Boxart illustration that looks like a lowrider. 310 parts.

Rumor of licensing problems. We'll see it when we see it.

Re: 1/12th GT40

I've noticed most of the "street prices" on Trumpeter's big kits settle at about 70% of their SRP. That comes to about $180 which I think is still a bit high to get the kind of volume they're hoping for. They need to amortize their up-front tooling/developmnt investment and turn a profit in a reasonable timeframe. Who knows what will happen but I would have thought a street price around $125 would have been a more profitable point for this kind of kit. The Tamiya Porsche 935 is a spectacular kit out of the box and yet struggles even in this range. It's been around forever and rarely gets built so there's some aftermarket competition with the reissues but it's a very impressive kit at $125!

My favorite car list is dominated by '50/60s era factory endurance racers so I really want them to be successful with this model so they are motivated to do future projects in a 1/12th series. Their 1/32 airplanes series began successfully and those lucky modelers who build them seem to have gotten an inexhaustable flood of brand new, exciting subjects for three or four years now.

I'm already beginning to worry that initial reviews will crucify it before anyone even has a chance to build it. There are higher expectations for a $180 kit than $125. Fingers crossed it's good....

I got their 1/32 Me 262 A2 and I must say it's one of the best I seen, but I paid 60-70 eur (90-100 USD?) and they're well spent for MORE (I think much more, but I never counted) of 300 parts.

Dunno know, I'm quite perplexed: for sure 200 eur is a lot for a plastic kit: I got recently the 1/12 Stratos (last s stand for plural ) for a reasonnable price: but parts are over 500...

Remember that a Fuji EM1/24 kit would have probably near 300 parts...

Re: 1/12th GT40

The current MSRP for the Tamiya 935 is $208 according to their website and was tooled about 30 years ago. I can't even imagine what they would charge if they were to do an all new full detail 1/12 scale kit. Their new Nismo GT-R is $70 and that's a curbside 1/24 kit! I don't think the price is out of line if the level of detail and quality is similar.

Re: 1/12th GT40

All the new kits are overpriced there is no question about that.
Less sales for higher prices to make up for more sales at lower prices is an odd way to go given that the whole world is in deep financial shit.

One year ago they said it's because the oil price, now they went up another notch but didn't state any reasons.

I do not doubt that some people will buy model kits no matter how high the price, but most builders won't.

As an example I bought the Fujimi F248 for 4500 yen + shipping, I would have bought 2 if the price were as last years Fujimi F1's (3200yen). I won't even mention the overpriced Tamiya curbside wannabes.

Yeah but I can buy it in the local hobby shop for 130€ (under 180 USD) and for 100€ shipping included on eBay, which is OK.

If the GT40 will be available for around 200$ than it will probably sell.

Re: 1/12th GT40

Car kit prices are strange. If the volume picks up again they will get lower like they used to be. The risk is alot higher then with a military aircraft kit.
Look at the GMP 1/12th MKII models. They were about as detailed as the Trumpeter kit(almost look like the same tool!) and they are assembled for around $500.00. Spark does the Lemans Miniatures kits BUILT for under $200.00 to a high standard. Lemans Miniatures wants $175.00 for the resin kit unbuilt. Stevens International is setting the prices on these Ford MKII kits. Complain to them!!!

I want this kit to do well. More 1950's-1960's and 1970's classic race cars
in 1/12th scale would be a great thing!!

Re: 1/12th GT40

I just pre-ordered one from Great Models Webstore for $175 - best price I've seen so far. They are supposed to be out in early July.
