91 PA parking lock

There seems to be a problem with the parking lock of my transmission. When I don't use the car for a couple of days and put it in R, the car will not move. The transmission doesn't slip, it is as if the handbrakes are still on.
When I put it in D or P again the lock disables and everything acts normal.
Also with a hot engine there are no problems.
Is this something that can be fixed without overhauling or replacing the transmission?

if it wont go in reverse sounds like to me that reverse is out of it. that is if it only does it when backing up. you might jack it up and take and try to turn your wheel's. or else take tranny pan off and see if it's got metal peaces in tranny pan.

Re: 91 PA parking lock

i got to thinking i never told you if e-m brake is on it will go backwards just wont go forword so i'm thinking reverse is out. another thing my mom and dad had a 91 and 93 pa and those brakes are a bitch. i don't know why but they changed the old way the old way was easier to change on a rear wheel drive. but they should've kepted it the same way on front wheel drive's too.
