Factory service manual for '97 or for '04?

I have a '97 Sable and a '04 Taurus, both have the 3.0 V6 and are similarly equipped. Since I am cheap, I'd prefer to just buy one factory service manual. I'm thinking I'd be better off getting the '04 and hoping that much will translate to the older car. Anyone have any thoughts or advice on this?

I don't think you'll find a whole lot of similarity between the two model years. Do both have the DOHC 24V 3.0L V6 or is one the SOHC 12V 3.0L V6? If they are different engines, I definitely don't think you'll find a lot of similarity between the two.

However you might be better off getting the service manual for the 2004 Taurus. You will likely be able to find repair information for your 1997 Sable at your local library or from the Repair Information portion of Autozone's website. I was going to post the link, but it looks like they've overhauled their website and you need to register to get their free information now.

I'm cheap too and you might be able to find both FSMs on eBay for a good price. I have many FSMs that I've purchased on eBay for many of my vehicles and bought most of them for under $30 including shipping. With the slew of dealerships closing around the country due to dealer downsizing by the manufacturer and the economy, the supply of these manuals should increase and may offer some good deals.

Shorod, both cars have the SOHC 3.0 V6, so I was hoping there might be some overlap there. Thanks for your input.

Way2old, I sent you an e-mail.
