Re: 99 escort

Start at the beginning.
You know you have a good battery but absolutely nothing works.
What condition are the battery cables in? Disconnect them and clean them up if need be. Check both ends of the negative cable and make sure you have a good ground. Replace the cables of they are extremely corroded.

Also check all the fuses in the engine compartment and at the driver floorboard area.

It is also possible that the starter solenoid has gone bad. They can fault internally and no power will go to anything. I would replace it along with checking all battery connections and cable connections as mentioned earlier.

Check the main 100 amp fuse in the engine bay in a tray close to the battery.

Re: 99 escort

If it only won't start, I've had the starter ignition wire, the smallest wire to the starter/solenoid loose conductivity due to grime,. corrosion, etc. If your's is like mine, the wire connects to the starter/solenoid with a female to male spade terminal type plastic connector. It's really not a good arrangement as it seems to be a reoccurring problem for me on TWO of my Fords!?! Removing it or even just wiggling it around some is all it takes, though if it is loose, then it will need to be crimped tighter. I have cleaned, tightened and I thought put electrical grease on them, but just yesterday, one stopped working again. Rrrrrrr!!!!!! I don't mind it so much happening to me, but it happened to the wife and telling her what to do over the phone is close to putting my head in a vice!?!
