98 3.8L Lumina Headgasket...

Hi,

on my Lumina is the Headgasket gone, I looked for 5 minutes and all my cooling water is in my Oil...

If I do it by my self, what material I need buy?

I need Headgasket, Exhaust Manifold...???

I will check these days on which side on engine the water is...

Oh damn, I read on different Sites that can be the Intake Manifold:

One of the few trouble spots has been coolant leaks on the Series II 3800 engines with the plastic intake manifold. The OEM intake manifold gasket tends to deteriorate after 60,000 or so miles in the area that seals the cylinder head coolant passage to the manifold. The seepage of coolant past the leaky gasket leads to overheating, and may cause bearing damage if coolant leaks down into the lifter valley and gets into the crankcase. The fix is to replace the OEM gasket with an improved aftermarket gasket, or the revised OEM gasket (P/N 89017554) per GM bulletin 04-06-01-017 issued in May, 2004.

The upper intake manifold is a very common failure point on the venerable GM 3800 Series II Engine. Often when it begins to fail, the car will show the symptoms of a head gasket failure, however actual head gaskets failing on this engine is VERY rare. One of the first signs of the intake manifold failure is coolant loss, these intakes can leak internally into the engine, or externally near the thermostat housing. In extreme cases, the leak can get so bad internally that it can actually Hydrolock (when an engine fills with so much liquid that the pistons cannot move up in their bore).

Take it off and look at the egr passage behind the throttle body as shown in the articles, hd gasket is very unusual.

This is good to know. I haven't touched my 3.8 LTZ in a long time. Too many things going on. I did get the thing running but have a code of number 6 misfire. I had replaced the coils and ignition module earlier. The plugs were all dead. After replacing them it ran but I get a lot of moisture in the exhaust and also believe I am getting water in the oil.

Good links. What will removing the EGR indicate? Does that indicate head gasket or intake? WIll I be looking for coolant? I am assuming yes?

If you fail a cooling system pressure test than obviously the intake and/or gaskets are suspect, barring no external leaks, condensation in the oil filler cap can be normal, traces of coolant is not.

Didn't see any coolant but, I have a pretty good leak in one of those plastic pipes. Wow. I will get those fixed first. This car was running great and then "boom" coil packs, ignition module and after replacing them, this water in the oil and white smoke. I guess it just happened all at once. I gotta get some time to start messing with the thing. Luckily I don't need it but really like the car a ton.

Ok nobody can help, can anybody tell from which car I can use a metal intake manifold?

So now I pull out the upper intake manifold...

Did anybody see any leak signs?

It was the lower intake manifold gasket... In the Heads and intake manifold is water, but in intake not alot...
