tranny info

hi i have a 78 3/4 quad cab long bed with a 350 engine,my question is my 400 turbo went out. what is the best tranny for this truck a 350 turbo 400 turbo or a 700r4 this truck will be a daily driver and will tow a small trailer,maybe see some off road time. any info would help alot. thanks.

What transmission do you have in it?

in the truck its a 400 turbo,but they are kind of expensive. the others are alot cheaper but i dont want to use something that dosent work right.

Alot of this is probaly personal preferance but i would stay with the 400 turbo
if anyway posible but the 350 tranny is almost as good and anything is better than the 700r4
my GMC 3/4 ton had the 700r4 and I had to have it rebuit about every 14000 miles depending on what i towed behind me
I finally bought a 350 (because i couldn't afford the 400) and put it in my truck
and its been going now for 6 yrs now.
i had to have some modifications to the drive line but it was cheaper than rebuilding
the 700r4 which i sold for scrap to pay for the drive line.

If it has a 400 stay with it.
Other wise you will have to butcher and change a lot of stuff.

hey thanks for the info,i think ill stay with the turbo 400. i had a firebird with a 700r never liked how the drive trane handled.
