Repost as "Inspection question New York????"

Different states have different requirements. Maybe someone else from New York will see it and give you a good answer, I'm from VA and it's not a problem for inspection here.

Re: Can i get a inspection?

Most all major autoparts stores offer free OBD II diagnotsitc scans. I would recommend having this done and find out what the code is and post back so that we may help you diagnose the problem. Thus, if the parts guy says the code is "O2 sensor below threshhold" don't immediately assume buying a new sensor will elimate the problem as they will probably tell you so (they are salesmen after all ). The code indicates the problem circuit, not a part. So, go buy yourself some washer fluid or something and when checking out, drop a 'oh by the way my check engine light is on, can you run the codes for me?'

As for inspection, since the CEL is on, your vehicle's PCM detects that it is not operatiing within factory emission parameters as set by the Feds, so chances are, no you won't pass inspection, in fact most places, any time any light is on or fails to come on during bulb check, the problem must be resolved to pass.
