02 sebring lx sedan brake problems

ok so i replaced the pads on the front end of the car along with bleedin the brake lines. well the pedal goes basically to the floor (gets a little hard just before the floor). i rebled em and no change so i started to follow the brake lines to check for leaks and no leaks but i removed the intake filter box to expose a block for all the lines. questionin if this can be bled or if i should just bleed the master cylinder. thanks for any help.

Re: 02 sebring lx sedan brake problems

didnt go dry. to bleed i opened the valve on the right rear and while my gf was applyin the brakes (a little after fluid started to burst out) i tightened it back down. pumped em then repeated 3 more times while her brother continually filled the mc. same went for lf, to lr, to rf. i even tried rr-lr-rf-lf. im still questioning the block all the lines run to as well. i'll bleed the mc tonight and report back.

Re: 02 sebring lx sedan brake problems

not sure if I understand did you open the bleeder then pump the brakes???? maybe a mistype....you need to have them pump the brakes 2-3 times with the foot pressing the pedal then open the bleeder screw. So you only replaced the pads right??

Re: 02 sebring lx sedan brake problems

well the pads and a decent amount of brake fluid.

pumped the brakes, opened the bleeder screw, girlfriend pressed in and held the brake pedal down, i tightened the screw, repeat 3 times.

it seems highly unnecessary to some people but i always bleed the brakes when i do em cuz the master cylinder is designed to force the brake fluid in one direction------>, not made to go in 2 directions<--------->.

Re: 02 sebring lx sedan brake problems

That is your proportioning valve or equalizer valve, which ever you prefer to call it.

Did your girlfriend depress the pedal slowly or just pushed it hard to the floor when you were bleeding the brakes ?

Dodge brakes need to have the pedal depressed very slowly when bleeding or you can offset the valve to one side or the other resulting in your current symptoms.

You can try cracking each fitting, one at a time, and try bleeding the proportioning valve. To clarify crack one fitting slowly depress pedal tighten fitting. Move on to the next one.

If you are lucky the valve may re-center.

Have seen this problem several times.

Good luck.
