Bad situation, need advice (pretty long)
I'm in pretty bad situation, I painted my galant vr-4 body Tamiya pearl white and it was perfect. when I decided to o the black trim around the windo lines, the tape leaked through at the corners of teh trim, I tried to wipe it away with a wet cloth, carefully not touching the newly applied trim paint, and it caused a big smudge. the body wwas ruined, it had black smudges on BOTH sides (mistake happened twice). I decided to put it in brake fluid, after about 3 days I took it out, the clear in the paint came off but the pearl was still there and so were the smudges. I put it back in the brake fluid and after I week, same thing, most of the paint was still stuck to the body, ad theres even these little specs and crap on it. I thought about putting it in the brake fluid for a month or 2 months, bu I did that with my integra and teh primer came off after about a month, and I used a 1/3 of a can of Tamiya primer on this galant and I don't want it to go to waste by having it takin off by brake fluid.
I thought about e-mailing HLJ.com and ask for a new body, and pay but I have to start all over. The paint won't come off!!! Even if the paint comes off, it'll take the primer with it. Please help, maybe you have an idea that I hav'nt thought of yet. |

is the brake fluid new, or have you used it before? In my experience, brake fluid is only good for stripping two models.

Maybe you could try using compund and do some hard rubbing on it. I ever used a compund and accidently rubbed too much, and the paint job came off.

A new can of primer would cost less than getting HLJ to acquire you a new body. I don't think you'll be removing the paint without removing the primer first.

Tamiya white primer cost $7 here, I assume hlj would sell the body for less than $7 on a kit that cost $11 . Trust me, I thought about that

try some castrol super clean it is hands down the best paint stripped.. Also brake fluid attacks plastic and makes it brittle.. There have been a few posts about that here.. The super clean is cheap just be sure you were some gloves with it.. Later Rick S

That is too bad. The same thing happened once to my s2k. Rubbed the bleeding black paint out with automotive compound and walah! Fixed the problem.
But of course was not able to keep looking at the orange peel on the body and I couldn't stand it! I repainted, oversprayed and the S2K ended up in brake fluid. Well too bad. :bandit:
