Hi guys. quick question. Ive finally got my money straight to do some much needed head work, and as always before I dump a lot of money id like to ask your guys' opinion first.
I have found a site that offers 2 choices, 1, send in YOUR head and have them do up to a stage 2 job, for under $500....OR 2, buy a head from them, up to stage 4, which can go a little under $1400. Now, given I have plenty to spend in my budget for headwork, dont worry about price in your decisions, just figure your opinions on what would benefit my daily driven 19psi 420a the most...personaly i narrowed it down to the stage 3, its like 1200 i think, and has a good mix of a little of both. So what's the question exactly? Whether it's worth sending it in or buying a new one? Or which "stage" to go with?
Why is it "much needed"? Stock head flows fine. Save the money and put towards something else. If money is no object, buy a new "stage 9" head and call it a day.

yeah thats what I was asking, better to send mine in or buy a new one that comes ported and has all the goodies already...(valve jobs,ect.)
well I dont want the stage 4 head they offer bc it probably doesnt have good street manners, and is also recommended for a lot of boost, at least more than im putting out right now. so, in short, I really like the stage 3 they offer, and was wondering if you all thought Id be better off buying it straight up with what it comes with, or trying to go the long route and get mine ported, then piece together all the parts... ive been wanting headwork for a while and couldnt find anyone around this stupid city that can do it...lol apparently youve never been to rocky mount then you would see, im prob better off buying one thats already ported and all, really just couldnt decide if I should send mine in or buy a new one... so could someone who knows a lot about head work look at what comes with getting YOUR head serviced by them? compared to buying the stage 3 they sell? thanks!

I got my head work done by Mike's Porting Service in Rhode Island. Very good service from them. He doesn't do "Stages" so I couldn't tell you what I got done, but it was a very clean port and smoothing. When I was non-turbo the entire head job did a great job at boosting up my hp. Still have to dyno this current setup. And then once I get the built block all done with this head, we'll see how good the port really is. However, I believe the fastest 420a motor has a stock/near stock head on it.
It's also not too hard to do it yourself if you wanted to put some time into it and save, oh I don't know, a grand.

Oh wow theyre not even offering to put in new upgraded springs and cams and such? I would save my money on the port job and invest in o good set of cams valves and springs with the saved money. So in short go for the $500 job

Just get your head ported and rebuild. Upgrade the cams and all that other stuff while your in there. That will be more than enough for your car. Hahn went 10.8 at ~136 on a mostly stock head. The only thing he upgraded was the valve springs.
