gas filling problems

i have a 2001 chevy blazer and i can only pump like 50 cents and the gas starts coming out of the filler neck. looked for a vent line but i don't see anything.

Some fuel tanks have a "roll over ball" in the steel nipple on the fuel tank where the rubber filler line attaches. It's possible that it's stuck; remove the rubber line where it attaches to the tank and free up the ball. Another possibility is the rubber filler line is kinked or there is something in the filler line restricting the fuel flow into the tank.

Please post your results. We don't see that problem very often, but every once in a while someone experiences it. It's usually not a big deal to fix it, and it probably will not need any parts replaced, just a little TLC.

i popped the fill line off the tank and it feels like there is some kind of slide with another door like there is by the gas cap. so i played with that but nothing seemed to change. i did not feel any ball and also blew out the fill tube and that didn't make any difference. a buddy of mine thought there was a vent line that ran up to the front by the motor with the pressure line and return but i couldn't trace it.

There is a rubber vent line, about 5/8" diameter, that runs from the tank, near the filler neck nipple, to the steel part of the filler neck. It's purpose is to displace air from the tank while filling. I suppose that line could be restricted, but if the pump shuts off after only 50 cents, it's doubtful.

There is also a vapor line, 5/16" diameter, that runs from the top of the tank to a purge valve located near the rear of the vehicle. The smaller line is part of the Evaporative Emission System, designed to collect and contain fuel vapor from the tank, and then send it to the engine to burn it under certain circumstances.

I'd check that slide thing out you mentioned, not sure without seeing it what it is, but that would be a logical place to explore a little deeper for some type of restriction.

yea it is a steel slide connected to the side of the tank that slides down to the bottom of the tank and stops on a lip at the top of the fill nipple on the tank. it almost feels like the same kind of door that is by the fuel door but not sure. im trying to avoid pulling the tank but i might have too. i looked for that vent line from the filler neck to the tank but there is nothing there. my sister who i got the blazer from informed me that the tank has been replaced so it might not be OE.
