90TC engine stops intermittent - help needed !
Hello, I live in Germany and own my Town Car for 1 year. Now I have a problem with my 90 Town Car Cartier 5.0 (after using the car without any problems the last 10.000mls): In cold condition the engine turns over immediately and runs fine for 15 - 20 mls. When the normal temperature has arrived, the check engine light flashes for a second and the engine dies. Now I cannot restart the engine until itīs completely cold (I have to wait for 1 hour or more). So we checked the ignition in this condition. When I try to start the car and it cranks but turns not over, the fuel pump works, but the voltage on the input of the ignition coil falls to 5 Volts - itīs fair to say thatīs nothing. We checked the error code - itīs code 14 (ignition system error). We replaced battery, both of the temperature sensors, TFI module, ignition switch, ignition coil - no success. We checked all of the electrical connections on PCM, relays and sensors, changed the relay one to another - they are ok. Distributor, cap and hall sensor are new. Now we are at oneīs witsī end. Is it possible, that the new TFI module fails too or (another idea) the PCM/ECM is broken ? Could it be a ground problem ? Many thanks to all suggestions !

I know this is a Ford, but on a lot of older GM vehicles, that problem most likely is the Ignition Module. I would replace that and see if it clears up.....

Re: 90TC engine stops intermittent - help needed !
You say that when the engine gets warm that it shuts off. But when its cold it starts up fine.. I would get a hair drier and put it on high and select different spots in the engine capartment and see if you can get the engine to not start cold where the heat was in a certain spot. Once found I would see where that bundle of wires, sensor or what ever it is leads to and fix it from there. Also, Do you smell a rotten egg scent from the cats? Might be plugged up.

When you say TFI module do you mean that silver square duraspark box ?

Re: 90TC engine stops intermittent - help needed !
Thanks so far for all your suggestions. Have to work until monday. Yesterday I ordered once more distributor w pickup, hall sensor, ignition coil and TFI module. On monday I will replace these items one by one and see what this does. Additionally I will check the hair drier thing. Will post any news. Many thanks, Hagen
