00' 5.3 1500 Water Pump Replacement Question

Just found this forum and have been reading the posts. Great info. I need to replace the water pump on my 00' 5.3L 1500 Z71. I would appreciate and links or info showing what needs to be removed in order to get the clearance to do this and anything I should look out for.

One other issue I have been having lately is that the tranny seems to be shifting out of OD on moderate hills at lower RPM's. Is this common on this truck and can I adjust the shift points to keep this from happening. Other than that 117,000 miles and running great.

Thanks in advance for the help.

A Haynes manual will give you step by step directions with illustrations for replacing water pump. I followed it to replace my WP on my 02 4.8 and it was very straight forward.

if you drive in an area of hills and the speed is 40-50mph,,,,do not use OD...this will save your transmission from excessive shifting....shifting wears the transmission and adds heat to the fluid/wear...

this is in the owners manual!

Re: 00' 5.3 1500 Water Pump Replacement Question

Using the Tow/Haul Mode does change the shift points. I find that using Tow/Haul along with the Tranny in D works well on moderate hills in my area.

Thanks for the info. Replaced both the water pump and the power steering pump while I had everything out and the truck runs great now. Not issues at all.
